Bytes from the past

experimental movie, duration: 0.51 sec

Bytes from the past reflects the memory from the view of the digital sphere: a digital eye, which sees the images of the human memory – doubled, distorted and washed out.

For the creation of the visual and the sound layer i mostly worked with a common hex editor. The material i used is part of the collective memory: texts like those of the bible or images from 9/11 are reinterpreted into sound and image files. I added my own field recordings and images, which is supposed to represent parts of my own memory. The work emphasizes that memory is not static, but rather fragile and mouldable, and that parts of our memory are actually parts of the apparatus memory.

Bytes from the past is the practical work to my diploma thesis about medial remembrance.
